4 Reasons why a blog should be a top priority for your marketing efforts online
Most people have at least heard of a blog these days, but many still view blogs more as creative personal self-expression projects than a solid marketing strategy. That’s a misconception, though, as blogs can provide some of the best return on your time spent when carefully planned and executed on consistently.
1. Blogs are the ideal SEO strategy -
By increasing the keyword density on your website, you’re providing the search engines more reason to think YOUR website is what your potential clients want to read.
It’s a little bit of insurance against dreaded “changes to the algorithm” that can render all the SEO work you’ve done irrelevant. Why? Because Google wants to provide the most relevant results to users, and by striving to provide USEFUL information to site visitors, you stand a better chance of being seen as RELEVANT to searchers.
2. Blog posts help create a brand image to relate to -
When you consistently post on your blog, you give potential clients a lot more information to work with when selecting a professional to serve their needs.
It’s important to understand that a blog is also the best delivery method of that much information. You don’t want to put that much information on the Homepage of your website, because it’s way too overwhelming to first time visitors.
If potential clients can visit your Blog, and that blog has a lot of quality ORIGINAL posts, it establishes you as an Expert with high credibility.
If instead, potential clients visit your site and all they see is a list of services that looks and sounds just like the last Agent’s site, they are going to view your services as a COMMODITY, and commodities are compared almost exclusively on price.
NOT the kind of brand positioning you want to be doing.
3. Blog posts show potential clients you take your work seriously -
What level of proficiency do professionals often possess when they take their work seriously? They’re usually very good at what they do, aren’t they? By posting consistent Blog posts, you demonstrate to your potential clients that you take your work seriously. Especially if you have potentially more seasonal business like Tax Preparation. Posting year-round to your blog signals that you aren’t just a part-timer, but rather an expert who can help them with their tax needs any time. What kind of clients need help year-round with taxes? Probably the most valuable ones.
4. A Blog adds a personal element to your website -
By providing potential clients helpful information on your Blog, you are helping to bridge the gap between the former ways of doing business (face to face, with the owner of the shop) and the newer ways of using websites to make decisions.
Think of blog posts as a way for potential clients to warm up to you prior to actually meeting you. A lead-warmer, if you will.
These are just 4 reasons why a Blog is a solid marketing strategy today and going into the future. You can also use Blog posts to provide content for your social media marketing efforts as well, which you can also see an example of with my own content marketing for Oxponent.
The best way to start? I like to write down a list of common problems my clients face that I’m able to help them with, and then choose one that seems most important to me at the time.
You don’t need to write a novel, just 250-500 words is plenty. The point is to establish yourself as someone who is an expert at what they do...as a PROFESSIONAL.
Most DIY website solutions today such as Weebly or WordPress have built-in blog capability that make it super simple to add one to your website.
